Sonas is a therapeutic communication activity. It was developed by Sr. Mary Threadgold in 1990. The focus of the therapy is to stimulate the senses (hearing, sight, touch, taste, and smell). Those participating in the therapy sessions also enjoy exercises and sing-a-longs. Research projects have found significant improvements in communication, cognitive ability, and daily living activities, as well as reduced depression. Research has also found this therapy increases the wellbeing of participants. Tara & Fidelma coordinate Sonas, which is available twice a week together with a full activities programme.
We organise fortnightly chiropody visits, although we can schedule them more often if required.
You can avail of a visiting optician service when required.

Speech & Language therapy.
At present, we have a weekly Rosary every Tuesday with Mass every Wednesday. Individual ministers from the Church of Ireland and Presbyterian Church visit our nursing home regularly. All religious services are held in our peaceful Oratory. In addition, residents can watch all services on the televisions in their room or on any other television in the building. This is particularly useful to residents who may not be able to attend or who prefer participating in private.
We currently offer a physiotherapy service at Ramelton Community Hospital after a referral from the GP. We are also looking at offering a visiting physiotherapy service at some stage in the future.
High-speed Wi-Fi access is available for both residents and visitors. The password is available from Margaretta in reception. Residents can use the internet on their own devices plus we can help them find what they are looking for, if required.
Direct Dial Telephone
Residents can have a private telephone line installed in their bedroom to make and receive calls without assistance from reception.
A comprehensive range of satellite TV stations is available throughout the building as well as in every bedroom.
We look after the laundry needs of all residents on-site. In addition, we use a local dry-cleaning service when required.
Local Wheelchair Accessible Taxi Service
We have a relationship with a local taxi firm that provides wheelchair accessible taxis to transport residents to out-patient appoints, to visit friends, for shopping trips, or for any other purpose.
